Siemens unveils unified comms server

March 2008

Siemens Communications has launched a unified communications server platform to enable businesses to migrate to an all-in-one communications environment that includes voice, video, data, and instant messaging.

Siemens said OpenScape Unified Communications Server can operate with existing IT and telephony environments including IP telephony and legacy PBX. It includes the OpenScape UC application, which is built on the OpenSOA framework that enables business process integration with existing applications and provides communications-embedded business processes.
The UC server includes OpenScape voice application for Hipath 8000 V3.1 R2, enterprise grade voice and IP least-cost routing, OpenScape video for integrated high-definition, and desktop and client video conferencing. It also provides presence, administration, session control, and other shared services for the OpenScape UC suite of applications.
The OpenScape UC Server will be available in three versions: The Medium Edition (ME) configuration, which is a single server application with optional redundancy for up to 1000 users; the Large Edition (LE), which is a multiserver configuration for up to 100 000 users; and the Hosted Edition (HE), which contains additional application components to support requirements of service providers and hosting organisations.
