After an impressive performance in the first quarter this year, Oki colour laser printers have once again proven to be unstoppable in the second quarter sales. According to the BMI-Techknowledge Quarterly Printer Market Tracker for Q2 2003, Oki has cemented its position as one of the top three colour printer manufacturers in SA. Oki is now only 1% behind the second-placed competitor with 7,9% market share.
"Oki lasers are the market's technology leaders," says Neil Rom, MD of Printacom, local Oki distributor. "The company was the first printer vendor to introduce single-pass printing for colour lasers, improving the overall speed and cost effectiveness of laser printers. This innovative flair, combined with solid performance and reliability has resulted in broad-based customer buy-in in the South African as well as global markets."
However, it is in the category for colour laser printers producing 10 pages per minute (ppm) or more that Oki has seen its most dramatic growth. In Q1, Oki took second place in this category with a remarkable 12,8% market share, but in Q2 this share climbed to 18,7%, 6% more than the previous quarter.
"This figure represents about 10% of the total value of the 10 ppm colour laser printer market," adds Rom. "It is clearly the segment of Oki's greatest strength and customers all over the world are increasingly turning to Oki colour lasers for the answers to both their mono and colour corporate printing needs."
