The product portfolio of MCI is a combination of applications, some of which it has developed, together with a handful of overseas distributorships from both the UK and USA.
In terms of their own locally-developed software, MCI has provided an extensive portfolio to the stockbroking community for over 10 years and the products include TradeCIS, a front-end trading system which allows traders to enter orders into the market; PortCIS, a specialised portfolio management system for portfolio valuations, analyses, fee calculations and portfolio modelling; NetCIS, an Internet-based system which integrates with PortCIS to allow clients to access their portfolios online, anytime, anywhere, integrates with TradeCIS to allow clients to trade on-line, and allows brokers to publish research information online; and an Accpac Interface, which allows brokers to automatically upload and download transactions to and from various modules of the Accpac range of accounting software. This facilitates the automatic production of management reports, automatic bank reconciliations and electronic payments. Another solution is CommCIS, a comprehensive Web-based insurance broker management system that was developed to manage commissions, thus providing income protection for brokerages, agencies and individual agents.
From an international perspective, MCI represents USA-based Applix, a global provider of business intelligence and business performance management solutions; UK-based Bond International Software, focused on the development and provision of staffing software, support and consultancy services to the staffing and recruiting industries; and Accpac, a member of UK-based Sage Group, a provider of mid-market management solutions. In this regard, various turnkey solutions have been produced by developing software around these products.
This includes, for example, the development and customisation of Adapt to interface with the web providing self service facilities for candidates and clients and back-office payroll and accounting packages; and applications specifically written for Barclays Bank Africa Group around TM1 to enable the transfer of data via satellite from all their operations across the African continent for consolidation in Johannesburg and subsequent transfer to the UK.
Other recent activities of MCI have included expanding its business intelligence services beyond the South African borders to Kenya with the implementation of TM1 for Kenya Airways and the development work behind phase 2 of Absa's on-line share trading service that was recently launched.
Finally, MCI also has a subsidiary called, a company originally established to develop the synergistic opportunities between e-commerce and conventional printing needs. It supplies corporate stationery and business cards to major South African corporations and many small- to medium-sized companies. Recently, this system has evolved into an e-procurement system, eBuy, hosted by MCI, thus creating a software as a service opportunity that can be exploited by clients as and when required.
MCI's skill set is diverse, yet complementary and includes an impressive array of BComs, BScs, CAs and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineers.
