In December 2007 MTN South Africa signed an agreement with IBM to partner on outsourcing some of the MTN South Africa information systems (IS) functions.
The leadership, management and some specifically identified functions will remain in-house as part of a retained organisation of IS internal resources. A contingent of the current MTN IS functions has been identified and will transfer from MTN South Africa to IBM as part of the outsourced service delivery agreement.
It is foreseen that the IS partnership will be fully operational in May
2008 and HR and business management processes are currently underway to ensure continuity and compliance in every respect of the MTN business, especially in the way it touches customer service delivery.
Albeit that MTN SA views this partnership as a valuable strategic development, the contract between with IBM is not exclusive and MTN SA continues to engage in best-of-breed service agreements where appropriate and to the benefit of its customers.
