Altech has made a $75m+ (51%) acquisition in Kenya of Kenya Data Networks, Swift Global and Infocom, all subsidiaries of Kenya's Sameer Group and makes Altech the leading broadband network operator in East and Central Africa.
Bytes Technology Group, now a subsidiary of Altron, has extended its UK footprint by the acquisition of Planflow, an outlet selling and servicing Xerox equipment. This is their fourth such deal in the UK.
Anupam Global Soft
Reliance Communications, India's largest integrated telecommunications provider, has acquired Uganda-based Anupam Global Soft, a company holding a Public Infrastructure provider Licence (PIPL) and a Public Services Provider Licence (PSPL).
Blue Label Telecoms
Microsoft has taken a 38,85% stake in Oxigen Services India, the Indian subsidiary of Blue Label Telecoms. This follows Microsoft's 12% buy-in to the parent company last year.
ConvergeNet has acquired an additional 19% of Structured Connectivity Solutions (SCS), bringing its investment in the latter to 70%. SCS is focused on consultancy, design and turnkey project management of business IT solutions.
Analysts Mason Group, part of the Datatec empire has acquired Redbox Consulting, a telecommunications and media consultancy.
Dimension Data
Dimension Data has secured an additional 49% investment in New Zealand-based SQL Services, a provider of Microsoft SQL and Oracle database management and consulting services, thus raising its ownership to 100%.
Ghana Telecom
The Ghana government has suspended the privatisation process of Ghana Telecom, since the highest bidder for the 51% stake, France Telecom, made too low an offer.
Global Payment Systems
The UK's Liquid Telecom Group has made a 20% investment in Zimbabwe's Transaction Payment Systems, a subsidiary of Econet Wireless Holdings.
i5, a Microsoft solns specialist, has acquired Chameleon Technologies, a Web design studio. Following this deal, the latter will now be known as BlackLight and will specialise on developing Web content based on the emerging Microsoft Silverlight technology.
Convergence Partners, a BEE consortium has invested a 21% stake in Integrat, a wireless application service provider (WASP) aggregator, which provides solutions that enable WASPs to easily connect into mobile networks.
Lightedge Technologies
Lightedge Technologies, a nationwide IT product and services provider, has been placed in provisional liquidation by the Cape High Court.
MICROmega, the JSE-listed group has launched a subsidiary, Stable-Net, a networking subsidiary that has already secured relationships with Cisco and NetQoS.
Square One Solutions
Square One has acquired Structured Infrastructure Solutions, a company that comprises of a cabling, communications and consultancy business, and, an industrial coding and marking solutions business.
T-Systems, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, has won one of South Africa's largest-ever outsourcing contracts with Old Mutual and Mutual & Federal for a deal worth some R1,8bn over five years.
