Information security for enterprise wide protection

1 June 2002

The Y3K Group provides a range of security solutions, products and services including anti-virus software (F-Secure, from F-Secure Corporation), access control, encryption and cryptography products (F-Secure and Utimaco) and a total security solution for Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Notes (Antigen by Sybari).
The company also maintains a laboratory running all of the major operating systems, within which its products can be assessed and tested against existing and mutating forms of security attacks. This facility is supported by a team of certified and internationally trained specialist technicians, according to Y3K director of sales, Sonny Fisher.

Says Fisher, "Y3K's client base includes some of the major banks, insurance companies, industrial corporations and government departments. The Group is in a position to provide top quality digital information security products and services, and has the skills and technology to take advantage of opportunities in this fast-growing sector."
F-Secure Corporation
One of Y3K's most important offerings is F-Secure Corporation's range of centrally managed security solutions for the mobile enterprise. The company's award-winning, integrated anti-virus, file encryption and network security solutions for handhelds, laptops, desktops, servers, mail servers and firewalls provide centralised policy based management of widely dispersed user communities. Founded in 1988, F-Secure is listed on the Helsinki Stock Exchange [HEX: FSC] and is based in Helsinki, Finland with North American main offices in San Jose, California. The company maintains offices in Germany, Japan, Sweden and the United Kingdom, and is supported by a network of VARs and distributors in over 90 countries around the globe, including of course, South Africa.
F-Secure Anti-Virus for desktops and laptops
According to Y3K's Ryan Price, some seven to 10 new viruses are found each day, some of them with the ability to spread globally within hours.
"If a virus enters the corporate network, fighting against it can be very costly, difficult and time-consuming. Virus infections often cause big financial losses due to network disruptions, decreased productivity, corrupted data and leaks of confidential data. Also, any company's reputation can be in danger if it spreads viruses to its business associates," says Price.
"With F-Secure Anti-Virus for workstations, anti-virus protection is fast, efficient and easy. It is the most comprehensive centrally managed anti-virus solution available for your desktops and laptops," he adds.
Key features of F-Secure's Anti-virus solutions include:
* Automatic installations and updates.

* Automatic virus signature updates.

* Automatic reports.

* 24 x 7 on-line protection.

* Multiple scanning engines (F-PROT, AVP and Orion).
F-Secure Anti-Virus solutions include:
* F-Secure Anti-Virus Gateway Solutions.

* F-Secure Anti-Virus for Firewalls, Windows/Linux Versions.

* F-Secure Anti-Virus for Internet Mail/Lotus Domino/Microsoft Exchange.

* F-Secure Anti-Virus for MIMEsweeper, and more.
SSH
Already the de facto access standard for Unix, F-Secure SSH Server for Windows provides total multiplatform network security for SSH users.
According to Price, F-Secure are cooperating on marketing SSH, with F-Secure as the only Microsoft partner with an SSH server. Says Price, "With more business-critical applications based on Windows platforms, network security has become increasingly important. F-Secure SSH Server for Windows provides strong authentication and strong encryption for most client server applications such as Microsoft SQL Server. It is also the only solution that provides all standard SSH server functionality, securing all major platforms, including servers for Windows NT, 2000, XP, and Unix and clients for Windows, Unix and Macintosh. Additionally, the product's remote utilities enable security for terminal connections, tunnelling for e-mail and web access and secure file transfer protocol (SFTP.)"
F-Secure announced its first SSH solution based on a FIPS 140-1 validated cryptographic module in February 2002. US regulations mandate that Government entities purchase cryptographic products that are validated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology for compliance with Federal Information Processing Standards. Says Price, "FIPS 140-1 validation covers more than the overall quality of software and cryptographic algorithms. FIPS security requirements cover 11 areas related to the design and implementation of a cryptographic module, including Operating System security, software, key management, cryptographic algorithms and self-testing.
"At present, only a few vendors have validated their software modules for FIPS 140 compliance and F-Secure is one of the first with validated full-fledged cryptographic modules."
F-Secure Policy Manager
"The F-Secure Policy Manager program provides an easy way to administer all the necessary computer security applications in your company - including anti-virus, personal firewall and file and network encryption programs - from one location. The program is used for maintaining and configuring the security applications and monitoring the corporate security policies. Management of laptop computers used by travelling employees or distance workers is also possible through F-Secure Policy Manager.
"The new F-Secure Policy Manager 5.01 offers faster installation, a new easy-to-use graphical user interface, as well as a fast reporting tool for up-to-date and easy-to-read reports. F-Secure Policy Manager 5.01 no longer uses Microsoft Internet Information Server. Instead, it is based on a hardened version of the Apache web server, where security has been improved," concludes Price.
Y3K's provision of top quality digital information security products and services positions the company right at the forefront of Enterprise Wide Information Security Protection.
